Lenses are based on the phenomenon of refraction, i.e., the change in the direction of light when it passes from one medium to another.
When light goes form air to glass, it will bend away from the surface of the glass.
When light travels from glass to air, it will bend towards the surface
In a convex lens, the light rays traveling parallel to the principal axis will bend and converge to a point.
