Stomata are small pores present in the epidermis. They are enclosed by 2 kidney shaped cells called guard cells. The guard cells have the ability to open and close the stomata. These cells contain chloroplasts. The epidermal cells surround the guard cells.
The stomata helps to exchange gases for photosynthesis and respiration. Transpiration is also carried out through stomata.
