Explain the principle underlying the working of a solar cell.

Solar cell is a device which directly converts solar energy into electrical energy. This principle is based on the phenomenon of photovoltaic effect. The Phenomenon due to which light energy directly changes into electrical energy, when light is incident on certain sensitive materials (semi conductors) is called photovoltaic effect.
