Explain the consequences of deforestation

Deforestation results in climatic changes. Trees and plants regulate the moisture content in the atmosphere via the process of transpiration. Deforestation thus results in drier climatic conditions. Studies have shown that that the loss of forest cover can decrease levels of rainfall. Deforestation also results in soil erosion as the roots of the trees hold on to the soil. Since deforestation reduces soil cohesion, it further results in erosion,flooding and landslides.
