Expert Answer:

Johann Gregor Mendel is known as the father of modern genetics.

Before Mendel many scientist has studied the inheritance of traits in other organisms but could not formulate the solid laws on inheritance.

Mendel did experiments on garden pea and formulated very important laws of inheritance such as dominance of alleles, segregation of characters, independent assortment of genes.

Not only sexually reproducing organisms but also asexually reproducing organisms follow the same rules of inheritance.
