Electricity from solar energy is converted using solar panels.
 
The solar panels have photovoltaic cells in them which are made up of semiconducting materials.
 
When light is incident on the panel, the electrons in the semicondutor are knocked off and they start flowing through the circuit.
 
This causes a current to be developed and we get electricity.
