Explain energy tranformation in thermal power plants

answered-by-expert Expert Answer

Energy transformation in thermal power plants:

  • Thermal energy is used to boil water and steam is produced at high pressure.
  • The high-pressure steam rotates a turbine and this turbine axil is connected to a rotating coil (armature) of AC generator. (In some cases, turbine rotates the magnet and armature is stationary).
  • When the armature is rotated in a magnetic field inside AC generator, emf is induced in armature coil due to electromagnetic induction. Thus electrical energy is produced.
  • Thermal energy is utilised to get mechanical energy, then mechanical energy is converted into electrical energy.
