Expert Answer:
DPT refers to a class of combination vaccines that help protect children against three infectious diseases in humans: diphtheria, pertussis (whooping cough) and tetanus. Diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis are serious diseases caused by bacteria. The vaccine components include diphtheria and tetanus toxoids, and killed whole cells of the organism that causes pertussis. Children should get 5 doses of DTP vaccine, one dose at each of the following ages: 2 months, 4 months, 6 months, 15-18 months and 4-6 years.
