The oxidation state (or valency) of Fe in Fe2O3 is +3.It means that 3 mole of electron is reuqired to reduce Fe3+ to Fe.
Therefore, the equivalent weight of iron in Fe2O3  is  55.8 / 3 = 18.6
Let assume the valency of Fe in Fe2O3 is X.
Then, 2X-(2 x 3) =0
          X = 3
