Enthalpy of combustion of carbon graphite and carbon diamond is -293.5(kJ/mol) and - 670(kJ/mol) respectively. Calculate conversion of graphite into diamond.

Expert Answer
Aim equation: C (graphite) → C (diamond)
Given;
Graphite C (graphite) + O2(g) → CO2(g) = -290.5 (kJ/mol) ----1
Diamond C (diamond) + O2(g) → CO2(g) = -670.5 (kJ/mol) ----2
Subtract 2 from 1
C (graphite) → C (diamond) ∆H = + 380(kJ/mol)
