Expert Answer:
Endocrine glands bring about control and coordination in an animal body along with the nervous system. They release several major hormones directly into the bloodstream where they can be transported to cells in other parts of the body.
Merits:
Can spread to whole body via blood or just to specific cells of the body, regardless of nervous connections
There are feedback loops, (basically hormones control) if there is too much or too little of hormone level present
The hormones are released only when needed
The release of hormones by the gland can be done steadily and persistently.
Demerits:
The hormonal control is very slow. It may take some time for hormones to get to some cells. Hence it is not very useful for quick responses.
