Expert Answer:

atomic number of sulphur is 16 with electronic configuration of 2,8,6. Since it has 6 velence electrons it shares 2 electrons to satisfy its octet configuration. Secondly in formation of S8 molecule, each sulphur atom shares 1 electron with 2 adjoining sulphur atoms which results in a ring structure.
