Draw the graphs of the pair of linear equations:
x-y=2=0 & 4x-y-4=0.
Determine the co-ordinates of the vertices of the triangle formed by the lines & the x-axis .Also find the area of the the triangle so formed.

Please Note: The equation 1 given in the equation is incorrect and the same has been rectified in the solution

For the equation x - y + 2 = 0,
when x = 0, y = 2 and when y = 0, x = - 2
Hence, let A=(0,2) and B = (-2,0)

For the equation 4x - y - 4 = 0,
when x = 0, y = -4 and when y = 0, x = 1
Hence, let C=(0,-4) and D=(1,0)

We can see that, the triangle formed by the two lines and the x-axis is triangle EAD.
The cor-ordinates of the triangle formed is A(-2,0), D(1,0) and E(2,4)
base = 3 units
height = 4 units
Area of triangle EAD = (1/2) x b x h = (1/2) x 3 x 4 = 6 sq.units
