Mainly there are two types of emulsions.

They are as follows:

1. Aqueous phase in organic phase

2. Organic phase in aqueous phase

Different types of emulsions can be formed from two liquids. For example, oil and water can form, either an oil-in-water emulsion, where the oil is the dispersed phase, and water is the dispersion medium or they can form a water-in-oil emulsion, where water is the dispersed phase and oil is the external phase. Multiple emulsions are also possible such as "water-in-oil-in-water" emulsion and an "oil-in-water-in-oil" emulsion.
