In digestion, the complex substances present in food are converted into simpler substances, by the action of various enzymes. Digestion is carried out step-wise in various parts of the digestive system. At the end of digestion, carbohydrates, proteins and fats are converted into glucose, amino acids and fatty acids and glycerol respectively.
In absorption, the digested food is absorbed by the villi of the small intestine and taken to different parts of the body by the blood vessels.
