differentiate between mechanical,electromagnetic,transverse and longitudanal waves

Mechanical wave also known as elastic waves are the waves which require a material medium for their propagation. Mechanical waves are classified as :-

1. Transverse waves : It is a type of wave motion in which the particles of the medium vibrate in a direction at right angles to the direction of propagation of wave.

2. Longitudnal wave : It is a type of wave motion in which the particles of the medium vibrate in the direction of  propagation of wave.

Electromagnetic waves are the waves which can propagate without the necessity of a medium. eg. visible light.
