Ascent of sap occurs in xylem tisssue whereas translocation is carried out by the phloem.
Ascent of sap occurs from roots to aerial parts of the plant whereas translocation occurs from leaves to the other parts of the body.
Ascent of sap involves the transport of water and dissolved minerals whereas translocation involves the transport of photosynthetically prepared food.
Ascent of sap occurs largely using simple physical forces like transpiration and root pressure, but translocation is achieved by utilising energy.
Ascent of sap occurs in upward direction whereas translocation occurs in both upward and downward directions.
