Acute diseases last only for a short period of time whereas chronic diseases last for a long time.
Acute diseases can be cured quickly and relatively easily whereas chronic diseases need long periods of treatment.
There are no lasting side effects due to acute diseases. Chronic diseases last for a long time and hence will have drastic long-term effects on people's health.
Example of acute disease is common cold whereas example of chronic disease is elephantiasis.
