In an atom, proton and neutron are present in the nucleus and electrons revolve around the nucleus. Now, these electrons revolve around the nucleus in fixed orbits. These orbits are called shells or stationary states. Shells are denoted by a number n and are given the symbol K,L,M,N, and so on.The value of n can be 1,2,3,4, ...
