Development in agriculture is not followed by all round development of the country. This is because it cannot ensure gender equality, high literacy rates and a healthy population. For example, Punjab and UP are the states which produced bumper harvests after the Green Revolution in the country. However, these states have low sex ratio and high infant mortality rate. There is also economic inequality among the people. UP is one of the states with low literacy rates. Agricultural development in Kerala has been low compared to Punjab, Haryana and UP but it has a high literacy rate, good an daffordable health facilities, low infant mortality and high sex ratio.
