Describe some commercial uses of microbes in detail?

Uses of microbes:
•Food industry
Fungi such as yeast help in the commercial production of beer, wine and other alcoholic drinks by fermenting fruit juices, malted grains or molasses.
Yeast is often used in the baking industry for making breads, pastries and cakes.
Bacteria find application in the making of curd.
Algae are a rich source of wholesome and nutritious food and are useful for the production of single-cell proteins.
•Production of antibiotics
Antibiotics are medicines which kill or inhibit the growth of disease-causing microorganisms.
They are manufactured by growing specific microorganisms and are now available to treat a wide variety of diseases caused by pathogenic microorganisms.
•Cleaning the environment
•Microorganisms break down or decompose complex organic matter such as wastes of vegetables, fruits, plants and animals, and convert them into simple substances, thereby cleaning the environment.
•Some algae are used in space flights to purify the air in spaceships.
•Some kinds of bacteria are able to decompose oil and thus help in cleaning oil sludge from oil tankers in the sea.
