Describe how the number of chromosomes is conserved in progenies

Expert Answer:

This happens through sexual reproduction. The gametes produced in the adult body through meiosis are haploid. When the male and female gamete (both of which are haploid) fuse with each other, a zygote is formed which is diploid. This zygote develops to form the offspring. So every cell in the offspring will now have the diploid set, i.e. the normal number of chromosomes.
