Expert Answer:

Digestive system breaks down complex food materials into simpler ones. Carbohydrates, proteins and fats are converted into glucose, amino acids and fats and glycerol respectively. For such conversions, several enzymes are released into the alimentary canal from various glands. So the digestive system breaks down the complex food materials so that they can be utilised by the body for releasing energy and for building up various parts of the body.
