The Homologous series:- any of the various groups of chemical compounds in all of which difference between successive members is generally a simple structural unit. Such serieses are most common among the organic compounds, the structural difference in the methylene group, as in paraffin hydrocarbons, or the alkanes; and the normal carboxylic acids, or alkanoic acids. In these homologous series number of the methylene groupsdesignated by the subscript nmay have the successive values 0, 1, 2, 3, etc.
