answered-by-expert Expert Answer

The SI unit of work is Joule (J)

Work = Force x Distance
1 Joule = 1 newton x 1 metre

Therefore, we define 1 Joule as the amount of work done when a force of one newton moves a body through a distance of 1 metre in the direction of force applied.
