1. When the wires are connected in series, the same current flows through both the wires.So I_1/I_2 = 1:1 given A_1/A_2 find the ratio of drift speeds.
2. When wires are in parallel, the ratio of currents will be in inverse ratio to the resistances. Write the resistance as rho times length/cross-sectional area.
Then use equation 1 to find the ratio of drift speeds.
