Renal failure also known as kidney failure, is the inability of a kidney to remove excess bodily fluid, minerals and wastes causing a build-up that is harmful to the body. It may be caused by a number of disorders such as  longstanding hypertension, diabetes, heart failure etc.

When severe, it requires mechanical filtration i.e. dialysis or kidney transplant.
