Solids are classified into three types based on their electrical conductivity as follows:

1. Good Conductors

2. Insulators

3. Semi Conductors

 

On the basis of behaviour in a magnetic field, transition metals are classified as:

 

  • Paramagnetic – these are attracted by the applied magnetic field
  • Diamagnetic – These are repelled by the magnetic field
  • Ferromagnetic - Substances which are very strongly attracted by the applied field are called ferromagnetic.
