By the 15th century, China slowly reduced its international contacts and retreated into isolation because of economic crisis that started in China. Inflation led to the depreciation of Ming paper notes to less than a tenth of one percent of their face value. Also, the wars fought with Mongols had negative impact on the Chinese economy. Since China was a country with a huge population, it was believed that its people were enough to sustain the economy.
One another major reason of China's isolation was that the Ming rulers wanted to protect their people from foreign influences so they forbade them to travel outside China.
