This is centrifugal force. if there were no gravitational force to attract the earth and the sun, the earth would have flown off at a tangent due to centrifugal force. But the gravitational force prevents it from doing so, and holds it back. The orbit of rotation is the point where the centrifugal force and the gravitational force balance each other out.
