Chalcocite is Cu2S
First step is roasting i,e heating the concentrated copper ore in presence of
air.
2Cu2S + 3O2 ----2Cu2O + 2SO2
When some copper sulphide has changed into oxide form we stop the supply of air and continue heating. In absence of air the unreacted copper sulphide reduces the oxide to copper metal.
2Cu2 O + Cu2S------6Cu + SO2
