The term diffraction is used to describe the interaction of waves and solid obstacles. When a wave passes through a gap or a round object it may get deviated from its path(Bending at the corners). The amount of deviation depends on the relationship between the size of the gap or the objects and the wavelength of the wave. When the two are comparable the diffraction occurs.
