can two carbon atoms form a molecule by sharing their 4 valence electrons with each other so that they complete their octet?

There need to be one other atom then carbon to complete their octet ,because the maximum bonds that can be formed between two carbon atoms is a triple bond. And to satisfy their valency one more atom need to form a bond with them.
