In hypotonic solution is the solution concentrated with less number of ions and hence more number of molecules of water is present. When the cell is placed in such solution, the water enters the cell by osmosis and this process is known as endosmosis.

 

In hypertonic solution is the solution concentrated with more number of ions and hence less number of molecules of water is present. When the cell is placed in such solution, the water moves out of the cell by osmosis and this process is known as exosmosis.

 

The solutions cannot be called endosmosis or exosmosis.
