Consider one mole of a perfect gas in a cylinder fitted with a frictionless piston.
Let P1, V1, T1 be the initial pressure, volume and temperature of the gas. If P is pressure of the gas at any instant during expansion, ans A is area of cross section of the piston, force exerted by the gas on the piston is F = P x A
Assuming that the pressure of the gas duting an infinitesimally small outward displacement dx of the piston remains constant, small amount of work done during expansion is
