calculate the distance of the nearest point of lightening.

We have the relationship between speed, distance and time:

distance traveled = speed x time taken

The units being used have to be consistent ... so to get the distance (in km) multiply the speed 346 km/h by the time taken (in hours) ... 


also to find the distance you need to be given the other two ... both speed and time ... so you'll have to know the time from the lightning flash to when the thunder from it is heard

They want the nearest point where lightning struck ... the nearest point is the least distance and that will be for the shortest time ... so if they have given various times, calculate the distance traveled for the shortest time and that's the closest lightning strike.
