According to law of gravitation every objects of the universe attracts other objects. Force of attraction established between two objects is proportional to their masses.

The moon revolving around the earth in certain orbit, centripetal gravitational force required for the orbital motion is provided to the moon by the gravitational pull of the earth.

As in case of asteroids or meteoroids, they are smaller in mass than the earth, due to gravitational pull of earth they gets attracted either towards earths or other planets. Hence they fall directly towards the earth or other planets.
