Both the parents are fair but the child born is dark in complexion. Why?

This is very rare but has been seen.
This could be due to some biological quirk by which the pigment of an unknown black ancestor could lie dormant for generations and then get manifested in the present generation. In addition, there is always the chance for random mutations to cause a darker skin tone than expected and there is always the chance of some of the unresearched genes being recessive and only showing dark skin in double copies, one from each parent.
