Hi Shilhshah,
1. A to C via B
The number of ways to go from A to B are 4
The number of ways to go from B to C are 3
Thus the number of ways to go from A to C via B are 4*3 = 12
2. A to C via B round trip
The number of ways in which he can go to C from A = 12(same as above question)
The number of ways he can come back from C to B are 2 (he cant take the route he took while coming)
The number of ways he can come back from B to A are 3
Thus the total no of ways he can make a round trip are: 12*3*2 = 72
