Are lysosomes same as peroxisomes

Expert Answer:

No, they are different organelles.

Lysosomes are small circular sac like structures, containing powerful digestive enzymes. They destroy foreign materials which enter the cell as well as remove the old and damaged organelles of the cell. Damaged cells are also digested by the lysosomes.

Peroxisomes on the other hand, are small organelles containing powerful oxidative enzymes. They are important in detoxification of toxic substances in the cell.
