Expert Answer:

Let the distance of the object farthest from building, horizontally is X.

tan β = H/X            .... farthest object will have smaller angle of depression.

tan α = H/(X - d)

From first equation,

X = H/tan β

Use this in second equation,

tan α = H/(X - d)

(X - d) = H/tan α

H/tan β - d = H/tan α

H (1/tan β - 1/tan α) = d

H (tan α - tan β)/(tan β tan α) = d

H = d(tan β tan α)/(tan α - tan β)
