in solving  problems related to increasing or decreasing functions, what you should remember is that for increasing functions slope at any point is either zero or positive and in case of decreasing functions slope at any point is either zero or negative.

let y = f(x)

then if y is a increasing functions then dy/dx 0

and if it is a decreasing functions then dy/dx 0
