Dear student,
Gametogenesis is the process of formation of gametes i.e. sperm and ova.
Meiosis helps to maintain the chromosome number of a species. The number of chromosomes in gametes is reduced to half during gametogeneisis through meitic division. When the gametes fuse with each other (sperm with ovum), the resulting zygote becomes diploid again and thus the chromosome number is restored in the offspring.
