Expert Answer:

Suppose the rise in water level is h cm

So the rise in volume of water in the rectangular vessel = (Area of the base  )* (rise in  height)=[15*12]*[h ] cu.cm=(180 h )cu.cm.

We know that the  rise in volume of water in the vessel is because a cube has been immersed in the vessel.

Thus rise in volume of water = volume of the cube

(9*9*9 )cu cm =(180h )cu.cm.

So we get  h=(81/20) cm
