in a right trangle pythagoras' theorem is applicable.

 if in triangle ABC(say)

angle B  is the right angle then

AC2=AB2+BC2..(i)

For any of the acute angles A or C,

sin theta=opp side/hypo..(ii)

cos theta=adjacent side/hypo..(iii)

with these three equations the result is obtained.
