An element S decays to R (A= 222, Z= 85) after emitting 2 alpha particles and 1 beta particle. Find the atomic numbes ans atomic mass of element S.

Expert Answer:
In alpha decay mass number decrease by 4 and atomic number decrease by 2 where as in beta decay atomic number increases by 1 . Net change in mass number would be decrease by 4 and atomic number will decrease by 1
So new element will have A= 222+ 4 = 226
And Z = 85+1 =86
