An aircraft executes a horizontal loop of radius 1km with a steady speed of 900 km/h.Compare its centripetal accelaration with accelaration due to gravity

Expert Answer:

speed of the aircraft = 900*1000/3600 = 250 m/s
radius of the circle = 1000 m

the value of centripetal acceleration = 250*250/1000 = 62.5 m/s/s

the value of acceleration due to gravity is 9.8 m/s/s.

hence the value of the centiripetal acceleration is more than g.
