A substance is said to be alkaline if it has pH greater than 7. It is the opposite of acidic. It turns litmus into blue. It is capable of neutralizing an acid.
The bile juice makes the food coming from stomach to small intestine alkaline. Bicarbonate ions in pancreatic juice also helps in bringing the pH of the chyme back to normal.
