After how many days of sexual intercourse does pregnancy ensue?

Expert Answer:

Pregnancy will occur only if intercourse occurs during the fertile period of the female.

During ovulation, an egg will ripen and be released by the ovary. For a woman with a 28-day menstrual cycle (the first day of menstruation being day one), ovulation takes place sometime around day 14. The egg is released into the pelvic cavity and swept into the fallopian tube. The released ovum remains viable for about 2 days. If mating takes place during this time, the sperms can fuse with the released ovum and fertilization can take place.
