Let the no. of pages the book contain =x

No.  of pages read on 1st day = 5x/ 7 

Remaining Pages = x – 5x / 7 

                                  =   2x / 7

No. of pages read on 2nd day = 1 / 2 of 2x / 7

                                                      =  x / 7

No. of pages left unread  = 12

Therefore the equation becomes

  x =  5x/ 7  +  x / 7 + 12

Solving the above equation  we get

x = 84

Therefore the Number of pages the book contain = 84
